Booi Holdings has started drilling the exploratory well, which will be utilised for stratigraphic purposes. Any hydrocarbons detected, according to the study, particularly in sandstone reservoirs between 600m and 4000m, will be documented and tested. The expected hydrocarbons are natural gas and oil.

The drilling team hasn’t encountered any major challenges as a result of extensive research, planning, and preparation, with the exception that the chosen initial well was close to the watercourse and far from the access point, necessitating a lot of intervention and site establishment to reach it, so it became necessary to switch to a better placed well.

Drilling attempts were halted due to rain and extra time was allotted to make up for missed scheduled time.

well sketch

Drill hole with 20” bit to the 30 mt (air drilling)
Run 16” casing to the 30 mt and cemented with Portland cement to the surface

Drill hole with 30-500 mt with 15 1/2“ or 15” bit (air drilling)
Run 273 mm (10 3/4“) casing 0-500 mt and cemented with G-class cement to the surface

Drill hole 8 1/2“ bit size with KCL mud between 500-1500 mt (rotary drilling)
Run 168 mm casing 0-1500 mt and cemented with G-class cement to the surface.

Well prognosis

According to the sketches above, they are currently drilling a hole with a 20” bit for 30m of air drilling, casing the hole with 16” casing and cementing it to the surface using Portland cement.

The next phase, which will begin next week, will involve drilling with a 151/2” bit air drilling run with 103/4” casing from 0-500 and cementing to the surface with G-class cement.
