The purpose of this exploration project is to explore for oil and gas reserves in the Thulamela and Mutale Local Municipalities of the Vhembe District Municipality in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.

This will be supported by the physical drilling of up to 10 boreholes to explore for the existence of Oil; Natural Gas; Gas and Condensate; and Petroleum.

Starting dates for drilling are still to be confirmed.

Petroleum Agency SA (PASA) promotes exploration for onshore and offshore oil and gas resources and their optimal development on behalf of government.

The Agency regulates exploration and production activities, and acts as the custodian of the national petroleum exploration and production database.

Currently, Booi Holdings has its Acceptance license for Public Participation from PASA and is still waiting for the final documents of the Exploration License to be issued.

WHERE THE ACTION WILL HAPPEN

The Thulamela and Mutale Local Municipalities of the Vhembe District Municipality in the Limpopo Province is the approved site for exploration.

The dotted villages (above) are earmarked for exploration in Thulamela and Mutale Local Municipalities of the Vhembe District Municipality in the Limpopo Province.

The approved area of exploration is situated in Limpopo, about a 5 hour drive north from Johannesburg (500km).

The closest main town is Louis Trichardt, which is a one hour drive (74km) in an easterly direction towards the designated exploration area. The surrounding local municipalities of the Vhembe District Municipality are Thulamela and Mutale; and the prominent surrounding villages areTshifudi, Matangari, Khavhambe, Dotha and Nzanwe, to name a few.

The Tshifudi area has its rock formation in Soutpansberg supergroup that contains fossil fuel (Tshikondeni coal). This geological formation is similar to Karoo and Waterberg supergroups, which are known to have fossil fuel and Karoo has some oil occurences. Drawing from the similarities between Waterberg and Karoo to Soutpansberg, Tshifudi has the potential to contain fossil fuel including petroleum products.

The area targeted for exploration is well known for natural hydrocarbon seepage.
