South Africa is geared for a milestone development whereby it will soon begin its first hydrocarbon extraction undertaking.
The first well is being drilled in Vhurivhuri by Torque Africa, Booi Brothers Petroleum’s drilling partner on the ER262 project.
Torque Africa is a specialist drilling contractor with a wealth of experience and an intricate understanding of the geological and logistical challenges inherent in drilling operations. They have honed their skills to navigate diverse terrains and conditions, ensuring optimal results for their clients with oil and gas exploration.
They are using their robust fleet of support trucks and trackless mobile equipment to gain access to the remote drilling site. All of the necessary tools and equipment have been successfully delivered on-site.
The steep slope of the drilling location presented early hurdles in terms of safely and efficiently constructing the drilling platform. It is necessary to ensure that the drilling area is level when the rig is set up, and this standard applies not only to the rig but also to the safety of all employees. Compensation for the steep drop was achieved through careful planning and construction of the site on various levels.
Local community members are intrigued by Project ER262, which is making history in their own backyard. Some have inquired about the drilling procedure and even attempted to visit the site; however, because drilling is a dangerous operation, access is forbidden to pedestrians (civilians). Only trained personnel who have attended induction and adhere to rigorous safety measures may be admitted on-site. Safety is a none-negotiable. on site.

Support Team
– Torque Africa has an excellent support team, both on-site and at their headquarters, who can mediate any challenging scenario and assist in successfully completing this well. Everyone, from drivers to purchasers, contributes significantly to the successful completion of such a project.
The drilling of the well kick-off successfully and is now secured with casing ranging from 0 to 30 metres, which has been placed. The casing was fastened using a tail grout method, which assures the well’s stability and seals the water encountered during the top drilling segment.
Drilling will continue for 150 metres to install the intermediate casing portion. Appropriate casing is expected to be installed as soon as possible.
